Linden Heritage Foundation presented Linden-Kildare Superintendent Keri Winters and Assistant Superintendent Keith Owen with a check for $6000 for “Let LK Shine’. LHF President Jo Anna Duncan says, “We are aware of the impact of closures in our community including the LK schools. However, the staff, students, and families are making amazing efforts to provide educational, nutritional, and emotional support despite the challenges.” The “Let LK Shine” is looking to raise $13,000 for LKCISD for the next school year, which will include money to enhance funds for new playground equipment for the second through fifth-grade campus and a stipend for each teacher for teaching supplies. Winters says if the donation, “we are looking ahead to reopening our schools and are pleased to partner with the Linden Heritage Foundation in “Let LK Shine”. Bessie Coleman soared across the sky as the first African American, and the first Native American woman pilot. Known for performing flying tricks, Coleman’s nicknames were; “Brave Bessie,” “Queen Bess,” and “The Only Race Aviatrix in the World.”
The food was fresh and ready to be handed out to those in need on Saturday, July 11 in the parking lot of the old Milstep building located at 300 S. Main St. The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program provided a truckload full of fresh produce and dry goods, boxed and ready to be handed out. Flo Stevenson, President of the Fairview Reunion Corporation and primary event organizer said, “This event would not have been possible without the support of volunteers from CSNT, Fairview, Linden Together, City of Linden, Linden United, LEDC, USDA, and others. Recipients were from all over the county.”
Congratulations to Carrel and Dean Byrum on celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary! The couple have four children, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. “You’ve been an example to us all,” from your loving family.
