On Aug.1, the ladies of Pineygrove Baptist Church, just outside of Atlanta on Highway 77, gave away dozens of backpacks filled with school supplies. Parents with school-aged children could either sign up beforehand or sign up on-site to receive the much-appreciated supplies. A special helper was on hand as well. Hayze McLaurin, a soon to be kindergartener at Atlanta ISD, helped to hand out the backpacks. A backpack giveaway wasn’t the only special thing going on at Pineygrove Baptist Church Saturday. McLaurin not only helped spread some kindness through their backpack giveaway, but he also got the chance to get behind the lens, providing two pictures for this story.

With an increase in school enrollment, eight years without a rate hike to property tax, a continuing upward trend for sales tax revenue and new residential construction underway within the city’s limits, Atlanta, according to Mayor Travis Ransom, has been insulated from the effects of COVID-19 from an economic standpoint— something few cities have enjoyed across the state.

On July 28, Linden Together held its second meeting to find ways of improving the community of Linden and were presented with a plethora of ideas from not only those involved with the group but also from those in the community and an exceptional group of girls.
