WHERE IS IT?

Here’s a hard mystery for you. It’s a stone in a very familiar place in Cass County (in fact, the center of the county). Almost everyone knows about it and avoids it. After all, it is not going anywhere. But your mystery for the week is to answer just what is this stone for, what does it indicate and why. Just think, if some visitor to the county runs into this stone accidentally and if you are nearby, you’ll be able to sympathize and tell the person what it’s all about. That’s worth something. Lithium expert offers background and insight into lithium extraction

Lithium continues to be a hot topic around the Ark-La-Tex region as new players emerge in the market for a potential boon including “big oil”. Up until April of 2023, none of the Cass County papers had ever done a story on lithium. Most in the area were caught by surprise when businesses began to visit property owners in hopes of securing mineral rights. Also in March, Standard Lithium announced that wells drilled in Cass County showed some of the highest concentrations of lithium in the world. While the world continues to change in its quest for “clean energy”, there has been one person who has roots in Cass County and has been here in the region working with Lithium since the 1980s, John Burba.

US House Texas, District 1 Congressman Nathaniel Moran spoke at the Town Hall & Tamales event Monday night sponsored by the Cass County RPT as part of a series of town halls in the area. At the event, he reiterated how important it was to have the town halls because he feels like a more intimate setting where constructive dialog can happen. “What I know first and foremost is I work for you, and I know that because that’s exactly how our republic is set up.
