An emergency session of the Cass County Commissioners’ Court was called last Tuesday afternoon regarding the proposed tax rate which was approved early Tuesday morning during its regular session.
The newest Whataburger opened in Atlanta on Friday at the SmithTex convenience store on Highway 59S. The owner, Jason Hablinski, also owns the Whataburger in Crockett, Tex. Manager Tasha Clark said the opening day was a steady stream of happy customers, inside and in the drive thru. The restaurant serves a full menu, including breakfast items, and will be open 24 hours a day.
Construction has begun on the Highway 8 bridge over Lake Wright Patman between Douglassville and Maud. Jeff Miller of Longview Bridge and Road advises fishermen to use caution in the construction area. The estimated completion of the new bridge will be in 2026.
A Queen City man drowned at Atlanta State Park while canoeing in the early morning hours on Friday, Aug. 28.
