CHRISTUS Health hospitals in Texarkana and Atlanta have earned the top rating for health care safety from the Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization that assigns grades to U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients.
CONROE, TEXAS - Texas Forestry Association (TFA) presented Charles and Sue Snowden of Cass County with the 2024 Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year Award during its annual meeting held Oct. 23-25, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in Conroe, Texas.

Nearly 65% of registered voters turned out for the 2024 November 5, Primary Election. Very few local elections were held, with a handful of judicial picks, constables, and commissioners listed on the ballot, with many other races being uncontested. Two larger races that affected our area, U.S. Representative District 1 and State Representative District 1 were both uncontested.
A settlement named Atlanta was started in 1862 by Reverend Jesse Dodd and his wife, Martha Caroline James, when they built a home one-half mile east of present(1972) Queen City. Other people soon established homes and businesses near the Dodd place, Ten years later another settlement was started about two miles southwest of the Dodd home because the T & P Railroad had changed its route. The new settlement was named Atlanta, too, and it grew into present day Atlanta which began in 1872.
