Atlanta’s Lisa Thompson appointed to state council

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed five individuals to the State Independent Living Council. These include Lisa Thompson, Juanita Webber, and Erin Bowden, with Bonnie Notargiacomo and Melva Henderson being reappointed. Thompson’s term is set to end on June 20, 2025. The Council’s purpose is to develop the State Plan for Independent Living and provide resources on independent living for people with disabilities.

Atlanta ISD receives recognition

Atlanta ISD was presented with a proclamation to recognize the after-school BLAST program,which has served Atlanta schools since 2006, on Thursday, Oct. 26.The proclamation was presented and read by Mayor James Brooks.

Cass County man arrested for murder in Paris

Texas Rangers, with the assistance of the Red River County Sheriff ’s Office, arrested a Cass County man in connection with a July 3 shooting in Clarksville that left 33-year-old Izah Kirryae Runels dead and three other men suspected of murder, according to Lt. Freddy Booker, an investigator with the sheriff ’s office.

Cass County receives law enforcement grants totaling over $50k

CASS COUNTY, TEXAS - The Office of the Governor- Criminal Justice Division has awarded the Cass County Sheriffs Office two separate grants totaling over $50,000. Grant funds will provide for the purchase of updated and upgraded body-worn cameras for sheriff deputies. Bodyworn cameras and software that supports them are an important tool in maintaining the latest innovative technology for Cass County deputies to record and preserve evidence.
