Conservative Catholic Bishop Joseph Strickland has been removed from his post by Pope Francis. Strickland who grew up in Atlanta, Texas was an open critic to the pope and his attempt to make the Catholic Church to be more inclusive of women in governance and LGBTQ+ people in regards to practice and rules of the Church.

Joseph Adan Roquemore was born in Bivins, Texas, a small east Texas town and graduated from high school at Booker T. Washington High in Atlanta, Texas in 1961.
Enon First Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta celebrated 138 years recently and held a special church anniversary event. Guest speaker was Rev. Dr. R.E. Ruffin of Hooks. Enon First Missionary Baptist Church was the first black Baptist Church in Atlanta, Texas and was organized in the late 19th Century, about 1885. In the early days of the church, the services were held in a one-room building on Louise Street.
The Mary Daugherty Senior Citizens Center is open all week for anyone who would like to join the group there for bingo, exercise, crocheting and a meal.
