County Assistance District Proposition on November Ballot

During this November’s general election, some voters in Cass County will be able to vote for a county assistance district. Many Texas counties find it challenging to fund public services, projects, and programs. Texas authorizes all counties to create county assistance districts and to adopt a local sales tax to finance these important public purposes. With voter approval, county assistance districts allow the county to receive sales tax revenue from the unincorporated areas of the county where a local entity isn’t already collecting a sales tax.

Burn ban is lifted

Cass County has received some much-needed rain over the last few days effectively taking the need away for a burn ban in our area. On September 22, the burn ban was rescinded. According to the last drought map on September 19, 2023, at 8 a.m. EDT, Cass County was still listed as a D2 (Severe Drought). That, however, was before rainfall began to impact our climate. It’s worthwhile to note Texarkana’s ban was also lifted. Additionally, it was noted in the press release that it is up to individual cities to determine their own measures.
