Millions of people around the world rejoice as Christmas approaches. It is a time of family, friendship, gifts, and songs. In 2022, Americans spent $178 billion on Christmas. This year, more than 115 million Americans are expected to travel to celebrate the holiday. In the United States, Christmas traditions have changed steadily over the years; and millions still hold faithful to the original purpose of veneration of the birth of Christ and celebrating the message of peace and harmony.
John Minett Hefner married Glazia Allen Floyd in 1869 and they lived on a farm north of Marietta in Cass County. As was often the case in those days, there was more than one marriage between the two families. John Hefner’s sister, Molly, married Glazia Floyd’s brother David Anderson Floyd, thus creating many double relations.
A total of $18 billion in property tax cuts were approved by more than 80% of voters in the November general election and should be reflected in property tax bills that are due by Jan. 31. The cuts come in the form of increased home exemptions, lower school district rates, and limiting the amount property appraisals can rise.
