Bessie Coleman soared across the sky as the first African American, and the first Native American woman pilot. Known for performing flying tricks, Coleman’s nicknames were; “Brave Bessie,” “Queen Bess,” and “The Only Race Aviatrix in the World.”

Food drive a big success

The food was fresh and ready to be handed out to those in need on Saturday, July 11 in the parking lot of the old Milstep building located at 300 S. Main St. The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program provided a truckload full of fresh produce and dry goods, boxed and ready to be handed out. Flo Stevenson, President of the Fairview Reunion Corporation and primary event organizer said, “This event would not have been possible without the support of volunteers from CSNT, Fairview, Linden Together, City of Linden, Linden United, LEDC, USDA, and others. Recipients were from all over the county.”
