Before the presidential election, several pundits and pollsters had very different outlooks on how the Nov. 5 Primary Election would turn out. Only a few researchers gave even a close assessment. With hindsight being 20/20, one can look back at the election and assess what issues may have swayed voters to give conservatives complete control over every branch of government. Voter turnout was among the highest nationally, ranking only second to the 2020 election. Here in Cass County, the community gave a strong turnout for the elections, with 64.79 percent of registered voters showing up to vote. Like many places in the United States.

With Republicans regaining majority control of the Senate, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is making his bid to become that chamber’s majority leader. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, had previously announced he would step down as party leader. Republicans will hold at least a 53-45 edge in January, with Senate races in two states still undecided as of Friday morning.
